A flexible PoE 3.30 starter is the safest choice before the patch details arrive: it should clear on ordinary drops, handle early bosses with affordable gear, and avoid a required rare unique. While ordinary drops should fund early progress, some players use POE currency to fill a later gear gap; keep the build functional without it until costs and item access are confirmed.

Use confirmed details to set your start

PoE 3.30 is scheduled to launch November 13, 2026 (PST), after Curse of the Allflame ends at 1 PM on November 9 (PST). As of October 22, the new mechanic, entry requirements, rewards, skill changes, and farming limits have not been fully revealed. Full expansion details are scheduled for ExileCon in November, so treat specific build rankings and mechanic routes as tentative until the final notes and in-game prompts confirm them.

Pick a starter for how it performs on basic gear, not for an unverified tier list. The campaign and early bosses should be manageable without a rare unique, and the character needs a defensive plan that works before its gear is complete.

For an attack build, plan regular weapon upgrades. Do not assume one early weapon will carry the character through the campaign.
For a spell build, check gem levels, support links, mana needs, and defenses. Make sure the setup can progress without specialized equipment.
For a minion build, check how minions hold up as enemy damage rises. The character also needs to stay safe while handling minion placement and support skills.
For a totem or trap setup, check its placement and activation rhythm against both moving packs and bosses.

Keep a backup leveling skill ready until the intended main skill has its required gem and supports. Avoid planning around a high-cost unique until its PoE 3.30 availability and price are known.

Turn the patch notes into a practical gear plan

Compare each candidate's campaign skill, passive-tree path, support gems, and first meaningful gear upgrades against the published PoE 3.30 notes. For attack setups, identify the weapon upgrades needed to maintain damage; for spell setups, check whether gem levels and mana demands fit the available gear. Keep early defensive upgrades in the plan rather than spending every resource on damage.

An older 3.20 Necromancer or Mageblood setup can show how a past build worked, but it does not establish PoE 3.30 balance, starter costs, or item access. Do not copy an expensive endgame setup as a day-one gear plan. Start with one main damage skill, a usable movement skill, and affordable defenses, then adjust after the patch values and encounter demands are clear.

Test the new mechanic before committing resources

No specific unlock route is confirmed yet: the NPC, quest prerequisite, map location, entry item, and reward process may differ from older leagues. Use the displayed prompts instead of assuming the mechanic has a key, cooldown, weekly quota, or particular map-tier requirement.

At character creation, select the PoE 3.30 league rather than Standard or an older league. Confirm the selected league before entering the game.
When the mechanic first appears, read its quest text and interaction prompts. Note the NPC name, encounter icon, and any stated entry condition.
Before consuming an item or accepting a costly option, inspect its description and the encounter panel. Check for requirements, difficulty choices, limits, and a confirmation step.
Complete one low-risk encounter first. Check the completion message and reward display, then judge whether the character's damage and defenses are sufficient.
Plan repeat runs or specialize an endgame route only after the encounter loop and its requirements are clear.

If an entrance is unavailable, check the selected league, quest progress, and any stated level or map requirement before changing the build. If an entry item is rejected, confirm its type and requirements before trying another. When an encounter feels too difficult, lower its optional difficulty if available or return after improving defenses and damage instead of spending every available resource on repeat attempts.

At launch, select the PoE 3.30 league, review the first mechanic prompt, and complete one low-risk encounter before planning repeated runs. If a confirmed gear gap remains, consider Path of exile currency only after checking actual item access and costs, then review the reward display before choosing your next upgrade.
